Institutional Performance Peers
Selecting the University's Peers
In 2014, the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) voted to adopt the “Competitor States Model” developed by the 2008 Commission to Develop the Maryland Model for Funding Higher Education (the Bohanan Commission). This model compares funding for each public four-year institution in Maryland to that of similar public institutions within the ten states that Maryland competes against most heavily in the national economy: California, Massachusetts, Washington, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and Minnesota.
Towson University’s leadership selected 11 performance peers in May 2015. Towson University's listing of peers includes comparator and aspirant institutions with similar mixes of academic offerings, enrollment headcounts, student diversity, and student performance.
IPEDS Data Feedback Reports
These reports provide comparisons, between Towson University and its performance peers, on a number of measures of student enrollment, student performance, expenditures, and faculty/staff levels. The National Center for Education Statistics uses data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System to generate these comparison reports.
Managing For Results (MFR)
Managing for Results is a budget management initiative implemented statewide in July 1998.
Faculty Instructional Workload Reports
The University System of Maryland (USM) staff produces this annual report as a summary of the instructional workload, which includes teaching, research, and services activities, of the tenured and tenure-track faculty at USM's degree-granting institutions.
