French Minor

Watch this video to know more about the French Program at Towson University.

The minor programs give students majoring in other disciplines the language background they need to broaden and enhance career opportunities.   More than 300 million people speak French throughout the world. French is the second most widely learned foreign language after English, and the fifth most widely spoken language in the world. French minors acquire the intercultural competency necessary for students pursuing careers in communication, education, international development, tourism, and international business. Minors, who are expected to reach the intermediate level of oral and written proficiency, also have opportunities to study abroad for an experience that can advance their linguistic as well as cross-cultural proficiency.  Students will attain a broad understanding of major cultural movements that have shaped Francophone countries and they will learn how the world’s cultural heritage has been influenced by the French-speaking world. French courses provide a window into the worlds of literature, art, music, film, fashion, food, and theatre. French minors will be able to engage in critical thinking about French-speaking countries in Europe, North America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia in a global context in courses that examine the social, cultural, religious, economic, political, and technological forces that shape them.   View  in the Undergraduate Catalog.
