Analytics & Reports
Analytics and other reports provide valuable information to help you maintain a useful and relevant website.
Google Analytics Reports
Analytics reports provide information about website usage. This data can be helpful in determining if your pages and content are relevant and structured in a way that helps website visitors find what they need and complete their tasks.
There are two ways to access Google Analytics for your webpages.
Detailed Analytics Reports from Digital Strategy
Request custom analytics reports for your website from Digital Strategy by contacting Stephen Gaede, sgaede AT_TOWSON.
When making an analytics request, please include the following:
- Background information on the need for this report:
- What questions are you hoping to answer?
- How will you use this data?
- URLs you wish to analyze
- Timeframe you want to cover (report start and end dates)
- Any additional information you think might help us narrow down your data:
- Who is your primary audience?
- Are there particular traffic sources (emails, ads, social media) that send visitors here?
Additional Reports from Digital Strategy
There are a number of reports that Digital Strategy runs and then communicates to web editors:
- broken links reports 鈥 these reports are run monthly and emailed to web editors the first week of the month
- webpages pending approval reports 鈥 these reports (also monthly) are emailed the last week of the month
- checked out webpages reports 鈥 these reports are run quarterly (every three months) and emailed the third week of the month they are generated
Broken Links Reports
A report within Modern Campus CMS is run monthly to provide information about broken links on university webpages. If one or more of your webpages contains broken links, your website鈥檚 content owner will be emailed a broken links report, which lists the broken links and the pages containing them. Your content owner will be asked to remove or update these broken links as soon as possible.
Webpages Pending Approval Reports
When a Content Contributor submits webpage changes (or edits) to their Content Owner that webpage will be locked until published. From time to time, usually because of vacations, sabbatical or just busy schedules, these pending approval webpages are not published and remain locked to further editing. Periodically this report is run and emailed to web editors to make sure they are aware of the page status and take an action so that webpages that are pending approval don鈥檛 stay in that state and do in fact get published.
Checked Out Webpages Reports
Like the reports run for webpages that are pending approval, Digital Strategy also runs regular reports of all webpages that are 鈥渃hecked out鈥 (the edit light bulb is turned on). This means that a webpage will be locked to other web editors and also unable to receive any needed software updates to improve functionality and/or security. Periodically this report is run and emailed to web editors to make sure that they are aware of the page status and take an action so that webpages that are checked out don鈥檛 stay in that state and do in fact get published or checked back in (the edit light bulb turned off).
Reports Requested of Digital Strategy
Web editors can also request that Digital Strategy run specific reports for the following:
- reports looking for specific words, phrases, URLs, email addresses 鈥 for example office name changes, URL website changes
- reports to ascertain which towson.edu webpages are linking to other towson.edu webpages
- reports about specific documents and how many pages on towson.edu are linking to them
These reports will be emailed to the web editor who requested it. To request a report contact Digital Strategy, digitalstrategy AT_TOWSON.
Accessibility Reports
Content on the university website is regularly audited to ensure compliance with section 508 guidelines and to remediate any issues. If your website contains accessibility issues, your content owner will receive a report which lists the accessibility issues.
