The Civic Transformation Living Learning Community (LLC) fosters meaningful connections among Towson University (TU) students, staff, and faculty who are passionate about actively participating in civic life and co-creating just and equitable communities. The LLC will explore social justice issues through the lens of public policy, civic engagement, and community-based learning.
Students will learn about the intersection of community engagement, civic engagement, equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Students in this LLC will be able to identify pathways for lifelong active participation in civic life (e.g., neighborhoods, workplaces, organizations). This community is a partnership between the Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility and Housing and Residence Life. The community is open to students of all majors interested in civic life.
All students interested in civic life are welcome to apply to join the community. Students who join the community should be prepared to take part in workshops and community engagement opportunities, including the two-day community orientation, which means moving in a day early.
Current Residents: Applications will be available for the community mentor and role model process in mid-February.
Incoming First Year Students interested in the LLC must complete the online housing request process. This includes paying a $350 non-refundable housing deposit and agreeing to the terms and conditions of the housing contract. During the online process students will be able to identify interest in the Civic Transformation Community.
The community will have a Resident Assistant, a community mentor, and role models. Additionally, there will be support from the Office of Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility.
Student rooms are suite style, (i.e., two double rooms sharing a bath).
To be assigned with your roommate in a Living Learning Community, your roommate must also select interest in the Living Learning Community when applying for University Housing and meet any criteria necessary to be a part of the community.
All medical accommodations are submitted through Accessibility & Disability Services.
Fall 2023 will be the Civic Transformation Learning Community’s inaugural semester.
