A range of additional internal and external services are available to students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors to accommodate the university community's needs. It is important to note that these lists are not exhaustive, and we continually work on updating this list of resources.

Accessibility

TU will provide reasonable accommodation(s) upon request to otherwise qualified employees and students as required by law to ensure equal access to university employment, educational opportunities, programs, services and activities in the most integrated setting, to the extent such accommodation(s) do not impose an undue hardship on the university, constitute a fundamental alteration to a program or compromise academic integrity.

All-Gender Restrooms

Explore the various sections of campus to find an all-gender bathroom near you. This list is always being updated as new buildings come online and as old buildings are retrofitted with new all-gender bathrooms.

  • NOTE: Some bathrooms have limited access as a result of being located in offices or residence halls.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center  provides transgender/non-binary affirming counseling to students who would like confidential support. They offer short term counseling and are able to provide referrals to trans/non-binary-friendly therapists in the local area (including those on a sliding scale).

If you have insurance through TU, you must go to the Counseling Center first and be referred by them to an off-campus therapist in order for the insurance to apply to the off-campus therapist. For more information about TU Student Health Insurance.

Sex Discrimination and Title IX

We are part of a campus-wide team of professionals and departments respond to and support survivors of sexual assault. We endeavor to foster a climate free from sexual misconduct through training, education, prevention programs and through policies and procedures that encourage prompt reporting, prohibit retaliation, and promote timely, fair and impartial investigation and resolution of sexual misconduct cases in a manner that eliminates the sexual misconduct, prevents its recurrence and addresses its effects.

Gender Inclusive Housing Options

Gender Inclusive Housing is an inclusive, voluntary housing option where students can be assigned to live in the same room with any other student regardless of sex, gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation.

Hate Crimes and Bias Incidents

TU is dedicated to creating a diverse space where all feel welcomed and to strengthening our efforts to fight hate and bigotry. We continue to develop our response and prevention efforts to best meet the needs of our diverse community. All reports and incidents of hate or bias are taken seriously with a focus on providing support to affected parties. We ask that all members of our community embrace the challenge of speaking up and seeking help in the face of hate and bias.

Menstrual Health Product Distribution

The CSD provides menstrual health products (sanitary wipes, liners, pads, tampons) for all menstruators at no cost to the individual. Stop by our office to utilize this resource.

Name, Pronoun, Gender Identity and Sex Marker Change

Resources are available to TU students, faculty and staff regarding Gender Identity and Pronouns as well as how to select and update their Chosen and Preferred Name, Pronoun and Gender Identity.

Rainbow Lounge

The Rainbow Lounge, located in room 343 on the 3rd floor of the University Union in the CSD, is a space for LGBTQIA+ students and allies. It is a great place to meet and hang out with other LGBTQIA+ people in an accepting and welcoming atmosphere. The lounge contains many LGBTQIA+ resources such as books, magazines and movies.

It is typically open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Friday.

Support Groups

In, Out and In-Between

In, Out and In-Between meets on Fridays at 1 pm. and is for all LGBTQIA+ students — whether out, questioning, or unsure — to discuss and explore aspects of sexual orientation and gender identity in a safe space.

2STN Support Group

The 2STN Support Group meets on Fridays at 3 p.m. and is specific to Two Spirit, Transgender and Nonbinary students to build community and share issues regarding gender identity.

A social organization geared towards transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming individuals, as well as those that are affirming of non-binary identities. The goal of TransBaltimore is to provide a safe space for transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming individuals to engage in informative discussions and affirming social interactions.

The group meets every other Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in person at the Pride Center of Maryland, 2122 Maryland Ave, Baltimore.

is an online space for peer-to-peer support weekly meetings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.

These groups are for trans Marylanders 18+. Trans means that the gender assignment when you were born is no longer accurate for you. Nonbinary and agender folks are warmly welcome in this space.

State and Local Non-Discrimination Policies

Baltimore City Non-Discrimination Policy

Council Bill 02-0857, signed into law on December 6, 2002, prohibits discrimination based on gender identity or gender expression in the areas of housing, employment, and public accommodations in Baltimore City.

Maryland Non-Discrimination Policy

Maryland State Law does not currently include “gender identity” as a protected class and on a state level discrimination on the basis of gender identity is not prohibited.

Gender Affirming Care

An “informed consent model” is one in which medical providers explain risks and benefits of hormone treatment and receives the person’s consent rather than needing approval from a mental health provider. A letter from a mental health provider and MD is still needed for surgical procedures.

Gender Affirming Care Providers


offers gender affirming healthcare, including hormone therapy for individuals aged 16 and older (Parental/guardian consent required for those younger than18 years); resources and referrals for primary care, mental health, surgery, dental care, legal services, electrolysis and support groups; and sensitive sexual/reproductive health care and preventive screenings.

Founded in 1978 as the gay health clinic at the GLCCB (now the Pride Center of Maryland), is a provider of patient-centered interdisciplinary health care for diverse communities including those individuals who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender; HIV infected and affected; and all others who face barriers accessing quality health care.

Chase Brexton offers hormone treatments for transgender individuals looking to transition. They also offer a variety of other transgender specific services. Chase Brexton has multiple locations, including one in Baltimore and Randallstown.

  is a specialty program for transgender people 12 to 21 years old looking for excellent health care. YTC offers primary care and a range of unique services for transgender individuals and their friends, family and significant others. Our trans specific services include: free support provided by transgender peer navigators, access and management of hormone therapy and puberty blockers, trans affirming gynecological services, individual and group counseling for transgender people, customized support and guidance for families, friends, and partners of transgender clients, counseling, referrals, clinical letter of support, and coordination for gender affirming surgery, medical and non-medical case management, and transgender specific health education workshops and materials. Located in Washington D.C., provides a safe, respectful and affirming environment that meets the needs of transgender and gender-nonconforming patients. They offer both medical care and mental and behavioral health services.

 is a lesbian owned, women and trans-operated sexual education center and store. Sugar carries products for lesbian, gay, straight, transgender and all individuals looking to explore their sexuality. Sugar carries a variety of transgender specific products such as chest binders (a tank top type of clothing that restricts a person’s breast tissue for the appearance of a flat or masculine chest) and packers (artificial penises that can be worn in a person’s underwear or with a packer harness to create a male-looking and/or male-feeling bulge in one’s crotch). Sugar also offers a variety of sex education classes. Some of the past classes have focused on transgender sex and how to be comfortable sexually in a body that you do not identify with or feel comfortable in.

Digital Transgender Resource and Applications

Refuge Restrooms

is a web application that seeks to provide safe restroom access for transgender, intersex and gender nonconforming individuals. Users can search for restrooms by proximity to a search location, add new restroom listings, as well as comment and rate existing listings.

Virtual Transgender Voice Training

Voice training can help transgender individuals feel closer to how they identify and reduce the stress and dysphoria they experience. The following resources are available for trans voice training on and offline. To learn more, that summarizes and includes criticism of the effort.

The Trevor Project

Transgender Pulse

provides support for transgender, genderqueer, intersex and androgynous. This chat room is a live support moderated chatroom for trans individuals. All full moderators of this chat have taken a youth suicide prevention course and are prepared to talk to and help suicidal individuals.

Safe Haven
