Behavioral Intervention Team

At times, members of our community find themselves or others in need of additional support and assistance in order to thrive on campus. Towson University has a multi-layered approach to supporting campus safety and well-being.
The university’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) is a multidisciplinary team that meets regularly to assess and develop response plans to serious concerns and/or disruptive behaviors by students and student organizations who may threaten the healt hor safety of the campus community or may be at risk of danger themselves.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the University response to potentially harmful/disruptive student situations
- Develop speciic strategies to manage potentially harmful/disruptive student situations
- Make recommendations to appropriate offices and University officials on action that should be taken to support students and the campus community
- Receive, gather, and catalog information about difficult situations involving students. The person maintaining reports for the BIT is the Associate Dean of Students.

Student Outreach & Support “SOS” at (410) 704-4462, or submit an SOS Form. In the event of an emergency, please call TUPD immediately at (410) 704-4444 or Baltimore
County Police by dialing 911.

What is the difference between SOS and the BIT?
Student Outreach and Support “SOS” is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that serves as a first point of contact to students in need of supportor connection to resources. The BIT is an interdisciplinary group that meets weekly to discuss students of high concern. SOS is one of the many offices that makes direct referrals to the BIT.
