Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Considering a master’s degree, conducting research, or teaching English abroad? If so, you could be one of the more than 1,800 students who receive a Fulbright U.S. Student grant each year!
Are you a faculty or staff member? Nominate a potential candidate for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program .
The provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs outside the U.S. The program operates in more than 140 countries worldwide and awards grants in nearly all fields and disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, STEM fields, and creative and performing arts.
During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding.

2025-2026 Competition Cycle Timeline
Applications for the 2025-2026 competition are due October 8, 2024. Grant recipients will carry out their projects abroad beginning in late summer/early fall 2025. To apply for the 2025-2026 competition through TU follow the timeline below. Students who fail to meet the deadlines indicated may be required to apply 'at large' without the endorsement of the campus committee.

Attend the Fulbright U.S. Student Program information session on November 14 at 2 pm via Zoom. Advance registration is required - click to register. |
| January - May 2024 |
Confirm your intent to apply to be assigned a TU Fulbright Campus Advisor and you will be added to the BB review site. Alumni must email their intent to apply and submit assignments via email to tucfa AT_TOWSON Prepare 1st drafts of your Statement of Grant Purpose and Personal Statement - see the section on the Fulbright website before your begin.

Meet with your Fulbright campus advisor. Continue to submit assignments to the Fulbright Review site. Research/Study grant applicants make contacts in the host destination for the letter of affiliation. Revise your Statement of Grant Purpose and Personal Statement based on the feedback from your TU Fulbright campus advisor.

Schedule with the Towson University Director for Competitive Fellowships & Awards (email tucfa AT_TOWSON) Schedule an individual advising appointment with the TU Writing Center. Submit revised drafts of your Statement of Grant Purpose and Personal Statement to your TU Fulbright campus advisor through the review site or as instructed. Stay in contact with your Fulbright campus advisor and provide updates. |
| August 1, 2024 (no later than this date) |
LOCK your – DON’T PANIC! Your application will be downloaded for review by the TU campus Fulbright Program Advisor and then you can make changes after the review. DO NOT HIT THE SUBMIT BUTTON. INSTEAD, YOU WILL USE THE LOCK FEATURE. The new system is different. Only after the campus review is finalized and committee review form is uploaded should you hit SUBMIT. |
| August 2024 |
Remind your referees to complete and submit your recommendations in the online system if it has not been submitted by July 31st. Feedback meetings for all applicants along with faculty advisors (exact dates will be determined at this stage). Revise your Statement of Grant Purpose and Personal Statement based on the feedback
from your TU Fulbright Advisor. Stay in contact with your Fulbright campus advisor and provide updates. Fulbright campus advisors will submit the Candidate Evaluation Forms. |
| September 2024 |
Additional feedback meetings for all applicants (early to mid-September - exact date and time of your individual meeting will be assigned in early September) as needed. Make final revisions to all components of your application based on your feedback session. |
| October 1-5, 2024, by 5 pm EST | Submit your final version of the ahead of the national deadline of October 8th, 2024, 5 PM EST |
