First Financial Federal Credit Union recently presented a check to Dr. Nancy Grasmick to support the first year of the Outstanding Young Women Leaders program at Towson University.

The $20,000 sponsorship check will help support the Women’s Leadership Collective run by Dr. Grasmick, Towson University’s Presidential Scholar.

Baltimore County Public Schools principals may nominate up to three Grade 11 female students for the program, and the Women’s Leadership Collective will select one student from each BCPS high school.

"The Outstanding Young Women Leaders program will provide a full year of leadership activities and events on and about the Towson University campus for 25 Baltimore County high school female students," Grasmick said.

Grasmick said the events will include interactions with TU faculty, staff and students, guest speakers and panelists, introduction to college life through cultural and fine arts events and performances, and a variety of leadership skills training and team building activities. Each high school student will also be matched with a corporate mentor.

TU continues to provide opportunities to students through such philanthropic efforts, after a record year of philanthropy — much of it given with unique, specific academic and student-oriented programs as the impetus.

The funding from First Financial Federal Credit Union will provide support for the Outstanding Young Women Leaders program — from administrative and technical support to programming and dynamic speakers for events.

The program begins in January 2020 with a retreat — including leadership and team building activities — followed by additional activities that will occur approximately every six weeks.

This initial cohort will conclude in December 2020, with a second cohort to run from January 2021 to December 2021.

Grasmick has served as TU's presidential scholar since 2012.

The Women’s Leadership Collective at Towson University provides leadership skills and experience to women throughout their academic and professional lives—while creating a collective of women supporting women. The Collective was conceived by Grasmick and is advised by a group of Towson University’s faculty, staff, alumni, and corporate and non-profit leaders who are fostering its development and implementing its programs.
