Towson University continues to keep company with the nation’s best public and private schools in the just-released Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education (WSJ/THE) College Rankings 2019.
TU ranks 484th out of the 968 colleges on the WSJ/THE national list, and 110th out of 286 on the regional list. TU is Maryland’s highest-ranking USM regional college.
The WSJ/THE College Rankings are described as “a pioneering ranking of US colleges and 鶹ý that puts student success and learning —based on around 200,000 current student voices — at its heart.”
The WSJ/THE rankings include the results of THE US Student Survey, which examines a range of key issues including students’ engagement with their studies, their interaction with their teachers and their satisfaction with their experience.
The ranking’ scorecard approach uses 215 individual performance indicators combining an over score that reflects the broad strength of the institution.
The overall methodology explores four key areas: Resources, Engagement, Outcomes, and Environment. According to WSJ/THE researchers, TU scored slightly higher than average in the areas of Engagement, Outcomes, and Environment.
In order to be considered, WSJ/THE required colleges to be Title IV eligible, to award four-year bachelor’s degrees, to be in the 50 states or the District of Columbia, to enroll more than 1,000 students, to have 20 percent or fewer online-only students, and to not be insolvent.
Colleges that submitted incomplete data or had fewer than the valid number of student respondents were excluded from the rankings. So were private-for-profit colleges.
This story is one of several related to President Kim Schatzel's priorities for Towson
University: TU Matters to Maryland.
