Dr. Chao Lu has been with Towson University for 25 years beginning in 1990. He was the chairman of the Computer & Information Sciences Department from 1999 to 2007, acting dean of the college of Graduate Studies and Associate Vice President for Research from 2007 to 2010, and returned to being chairman of the Computer & Information Sciences in 2011. He took sabbatical leave at US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in 1996 and was a consultant on micro-Doppler Radar, Computer Vision for NRL from 1997 to 2003. He received the U.S. Federal “Excellence in Technology Transfer” Award and “Alan Berman Research Publications Award” in 2001.
Dr. Lu co-authored two books: "Algorithms for Discrete Fourier Transform and Convolutions", Springer, 1989, 2nd Edition 1997; "Mathematics of Multi-dimensional Fourier Transform Algorithms", Springer, 1993, 2nd Edition 1997; book chapters in "Advances in Imaging and Electron Physics", Academic Press, 1995; and more than 80 international journal and conference papers.
He received his Ph.D. in Engineering (E.E.) 1988 from the City University of New York. His research has been funded by NSF, NRL, AFOSR, DARPA, ONR, ARL and NIST. He chaired four international conferences: SNPD 2005, SNPD 2006, SERA2011 and ACM-RACS2014, and has been invited by a number of international conferences as the keynote speaker.
