Learn about the Theatre Studies Track
The Towson Theatre Lab is a bi-weekly gathering of students, faculty and community members interested in listening to, viewing and responding to new works.
Founded in 2008, the Towson Theatre Lab provides writers creating texts for live performances (playwrights, poets, and storytellers) from the TU community with the opportunity to share early drafts of their work and receive compassionate, critical feedback from a group of assembled artists. The assembled artists offer the writers the chance to hear and observe reactions to their work at a nascent stage, before proceeding onto the next phase of the creative process.
Playwrights, performance artists, actors, directors, designers, and anyone interested in working with emerging works are invited to attend and hone their skills in finding inspiration in cold readings and discovering new works and creative voices.
Theatre Lab has produced several new play festivals including Good Gravy (2011); Wright On (2015); Wright Hard, Play Hard (2018); and Love at First Wright (2024).
Beginning in 2021, Theatre Lab is supported by the Acting Crew (THEA 492) during the fall semester, which provides opportunities for longer-form residencies with TU alumni who are writing and developing new works: 20/02 by Chloe and Kaylah Harvey (2021) and Queens by Divinia Shorter (2023).
